The Future & Educational Priorities of Our Local Schools

Thank you to the hundreds of residents who participated in our Community Educational Priorities Survey earlier this year.  Your feedback is important to us, and that’s why we want to make sure to hear from you on your local educational priorities.

Some of our school facilities are over 70 years old, they are aging and in urgent need of repairs. The District continues to work hard to address these essential repairs and upgrade needs for school roofs, windows, bathrooms, plumbing, wiring, and heating and cooling systems to provide a safe, healthy learning environment for all students.

Good schools are part of what makes our community a desirable place to live. By continuing to maintain our high-quality public schools, we attract and retain a skilled workforce, maintain property values, and keep our local economy strong.

The survey conducted also assessed other education priorities for our schools. The top community priorities included:

  • Ensure school safety
  • Ensure all schools are prepared for earthquakes
  • Fix or replace leaky roofs, doors, and windows
  • Utilize opportunities for Department of Defense matching funds
  • Replace deteriorating plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling systems
  • Expand facilities to support programs in reading and literacy for the youngest learners

Furthermore, the District is currently developing a strategy to qualify our local schools for over $100 Million in funding from the Department of Defense. If successful, the District could build a new elementary school without taking on debt.
